Harmonyum Strikes a Chord When You’re Looking For Positive Change
by Andrea Foster, Education Director
I love Naam yoga. It’s a joyful practice that blends just the right amount of chanting, movement, energy work and an upbeat spirit that never fails to open my heart and make my body feel great. But I’m not writing about Naam yoga today. I’m writing about an individualized healing designed by the founder of Naam yoga that integrates directly with the yoga practice. Hearing the name of it conjures up an image of an instrument you’d find at any Kirtan, but when you see the name, you know this speaks to the art of fine-tuning the instrument of the body, with a delicious twist.
The name of the treatment is “Harmonyum”.
Joseph Michael Levry, a master of esoteric and ancient Kabbalah wisdom, designed the Harmonyum Healing System to work on layers of energy that surround the physical body. The practitioner is a conduit of Universal light to facilitate allowing a client’s body to raise its energy and its vibration to a healing height. Testimonials from practitioners and clients indicate that Harmonyum treatments can alleviate physical pain, restore emotional and mental clarity, and establish a general feeling of wellness.
My initial impression of the treatment as I researched it before my appointment was that it seemed to be similar to Reiki healing. The client remains fully clothed and the practitioner works on an energetic level. However I soon learned Harmonyum and Reiki bear only a passing resemblance.
I had my treatment with practitioner Akiva Satnarayan. He told me a little about the features and purpose of the treatment. Karma, he said, is stored in the bones. So, the treatment works to sweep away old karma along the central conduit of energy, the spine. Harmonyum is also meant to restore an individual’s original spiritual imprint as it was at birth, clean up karmic patterns, and address health issues held within one’s DNA and past experiences. As negative patterns and emotional issues accumulate in one’s energetic body, issues in the physical body may arise. Harmonyum can manage the energy imbalance before it gets to the physical level.
He would later tell me that the treatment also activates the parasympathetic nervous system. This is the rest and digest companion to the fight or flight response of the sympathetic nervous system. While the sympathetic nervous system gets you ready for action (and is overused in our modern society), the parasympathetic nervous system, tells you to relax, that everything’s just fine.
Harmonyum healing can also activate change for a client. The energetic movements initiated in my energy field today would unfold over time, delivering slight changes to potentially great shifts in the course of my life. Harmonyum healing is also cumulative. Akiva recommends having a treatment once or twice a month. The more often light is flooded into my being, the more that light can take hold and suffuse my entire body with Universal balance. Levry believes this is the key to lasting health.
My treatment started off as relaxing in an ordinary sort of way, the way the anticipation of a massage treatment begins to deepen your breath once you lie down on the table. As the treatment progressed, my relaxation was profound. I felt Akiva’s hands on my back, giving long strokes along the spine and then subtle finger manipulations along the vertebrae that gradually narrowed in focus until they were so slight as to be nearly imperceptible. I fell asleep for a small part of it, but otherwise was deeply entranced by the movements along my back, the gentle background music, and the still, yet concentrated energy in the room.
I asked Akiva if there was anything he could share with me about what he’d experienced working on my back. He said that the light goes where it is most needed in the body; he was just there to deliver that light through the specific actions he performed. There are two centers in the body: a center of creation in the lower body and a divine center at the top of the spine. Harmonyum brings the light of higher consciousness from the divine center down into the seat of creation.
Levry writes about the philosophy and technology of Harmonyum on his website, rootlight.com. Practitioners of Harmonyum seem to follow the old adage, “many are called, but few are chosen.” In order to be open as a channel of pure light, a practitioner must discipline his body, mind, and spirit. He must nurture a “spiritual seed” through virtues of prayer, meditation, and service.
Akiva agreed, noting that all Harmonyum practitioners are connected to angelic sources and unless he is cultivating light in himself, he can’t cultivate light in others. The practice demands that a practitioner be a channel of service; it’s not about the practitioner or how skilled they are. The payoff is that the practitioner receives healing in the treatment just as healing occurs for the client.
Akiva first learned of Harmonyum when he met Dr. Levry in New York in 2004. He then trained in the modality in 2009. He is able to provide three separate levels of treatment, depending on the needs of the client. A Level I Harmonyum treatment removes karmic patterns and can work on diminishing harmful patterns of addiction, bad luck, and chronic illness over the course of an hour. Level II is a longer treatment that can boost organs which are under stress such as the brain, heart, spleen, liver, adrenals, and reproductive organs. It also energizes the glands. A Level III treatment works to boost the heart and is used to overcome extreme trauma and shock.
According to Akiva, disease can arise when there is disconnection in the physical body from your energetic body. If your thoughts aren’t on a healthy pattern, it can generate imbalance on the physical level that can lead to diminished health and even a disease state. Massage may help a physical symptom, but Harmonyum could resolve the seed of the problem that caused the symptom.
Harmonyum also complements Naam yoga in changing patterns. Where Harmonyum will instigate change, Naam yoga practice can help someone maintain the positive change.
Following my own treatment, I found the next day that I could sink back into the feeling I’d had immediately after the treatment, which provided me with a touchstone to slow things down. Despite being a long-time meditator and student of yoga, I have trouble remembering to breathe. This new, subtle feeling unexpectedly opened the door to my breath in a way I hadn’t experienced before. And this is change I can believe in.
Akiva Satnarayan is available for Harmonyum treatments at the dhyana Center Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Please call 707-823-8818 to book your next appointment.
