Exploring the Elements, Herbs, and Medicine Making

Free Intro Tuesday, March 6 :: 6:30 to 8:30 pm
This course is a dynamic exploration of the Five Elements as the basis of health and healing, through self-inquiry, plant allies, medicine-making techniques, movement, and art. The Five Great Elements (Pancha Mahabhuta), ether, air, fire, water, and earth give rise to all that exists. The state of your health is a reflection of how the elements are expressed within you. Each week-end will be focused on one Element, its qualities, plant allies, its encumbrances and wisdom states, and medicine-making techniques.
Each student will receive a Course Binder and will take home the following herbal creations:
Infused oils, salve, lotions, salt scrub
Vinegar and alcohol tinctures
Students are also asked to dedicated 4 hours a month or 24 hours to a personal project.
Each week-end will cover the elemental properties, herbal applications, and the emotional dimensions of our focused element.
Energetic Properties: We will explore Ether/Space and its corresponding sense of sound through meditation, motion, and vibration.
Herbal Applications: We will be working with herbs supporting the Nervous system and how to use smudge and smoke therapy.
Emotional Dimensions: As we experience the element of Ether/Space, time will be spend working with the encumbered aspects of delusion/confusion and its wisdom state in primordial wisdom
Air (Vayu) – Touch – Movement – Oils/Salves/Lotions
Energetic Properties: – Air brings the sense of touch and the energy of movement. We will work with self-care, lymphatic massage, and touch.
Herbal Applications: This week-end will focus on the skin and tissues with a focus on oils: making herbal infused oils, salves, and lotions, and salt scrubs.
Emotional Dimensions: Air activates the encumbered emotion of Envy. We will explore how this expresses in our lives and bring it to its wisdom state of all-encompassing wisdom.
Fire (Agni) – Vision – Transformation – Vinegar/Alcohol Tinctures
Energetic Properties: – The Fire element is related to the sense of vision and the action of transformation. We will work with creative art and accessing our passion
Herbal Applications: We will explore the digestive system and make vinegar and alcohol tinctures and cordials
Emotional Dimensions: Fire brings in the encumbered emotion of Grasping and transforms into discerning wisdom.
Water (Jal) – Taste – Cohesion – Tea/Decoctions/Syrups/Foot Baths
Energetic Properties: Water holds the sense of taste and cohesion.
Herbal Applications: We will work with different water applications depending on what part of the plant you are using. Flowers, leaf, bark, and root to make teas and decoctions. We will take time discussing the urinary tract and how water moves within our body systems.
Emotional Dimensions: With the many aspects of water from ice to steam, we will sit with the world of anger and how it can come into mirror-like wisdom.
Earth (Prthvı) – Smell – Structure – Poultice /Lozenges/Fermentation
Energetic Properties: Coming to our final element Earth, we will explore structure and the sense of smell. We will bring in food as medicine and honor the gifts of the Earth’s generosity.
Herbal Applications: We will work with poultices, dry herb lozenges and making vegetable ferments.
Emotional Dimensions: Earth holds the emotion of pride. We will explore what sits underneath and how to bring forth the wisdom of equanimity.
The Three Dosha’s, Vata, Pitta, Kapha
Our final week-end we will bring the individual elements together into the three doshas. We will also take the time for each participant to share their Personal projects.
Saturday Classes will be held at the dhyana Center from 11:00 – 6:00 ( with use of Self Care) Sunday class will be at an off-site locations from 10:00 – 6:00

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Michelle Vesser – Gardener, Herbalist, and Spiritual Counselor
In 2017 Michelle opened up her wings and created Everything Sacred: Tending the Inner and Outer Landscape. Through this new endeavor, she offers guidance in organic gardening, herbal medicine and nutrition, spiritual counseling and mediation, weddings, and end of life care.
Michelle has been a Farmer/Gardener for the past 30 years dedicated to passing on the knowledge/art of hand-tilled, organic agriculture. The last 12 years she has been the Garden Manager at the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center (OAEC). She has engaged in the study of and practice of herbal medicine and the work of Weston A. Price since 1997. For 10 years, Michelle’s earth wisdom has been shared in a 3-day course – Healing Through Food, Gardening, Herbs, and Ceremony: Remembering Our Way at OAEC. She has also taught many sessions on these topics at the Northern California Women’s Herbal Symposium (NCWHS).
In addition, Michelle, has produced Naka-Ima – Inside of Now, a three-day interactive honesty practice based on Buddhist philosophy since 2006. She has cultivated many tools as a spiritual counselor and works with individual, couples and has offered workshops on Tracking Your Inner Landscape at Western Women’s Tracking Conference and NCWHS.
She is happy to be joining the dhyana Center.
